What is bingo and how does it work?
Bingo is a game of chance where each player receives one or more cards with randomly assigned numbers. A caller (or an automated system) draws numbers at random and announces them. Players mark off matching numbers on their cards. The first player to complete a specific pattern — a line, two lines, or a full house — wins.
What makes bingo so addictive is the mix of anticipation, simplicity, and shared excitement. It doesn't matter if you're 8 or 80 — from the very first number called, everyone has an equal chance of winning.
How to play bingo step by step
Playing bingo is straightforward. Here's how it works:
1. Get your bingo cards
Each player needs at least one card with numbers. You can use printed cards or play digitally. With BINGU, you can generate and print bingo cards in PDF with 10 different designs — all free.
2. The game begins
The caller starts drawing balls at random. Each ball has a number that is announced out loud. In online bingo, a pre-recorded voice calls the numbers automatically — no human caller needed.
3. Mark your numbers
When you hear a number that appears on your card, mark it off. In traditional bingo, players use a dabber or pen. In online bingo, marking can be automatic.
4. Call out your win
When you complete a horizontal row on your card, you can shout "Line!". If you mark off every single number on your card, call out "Bingo!" — or "Full house!" in British bingo — and you've won the game.
5. Verification
The caller checks that your marked numbers are correct. In BINGU Online, verification is automatic and instant — no disputes, no delays.
90-ball vs 75-ball bingo: which one is for you?
There are two main versions of bingo played worldwide. The one you choose depends on where you're from and what you prefer:
90-ball bingo (British / European)
This is the standard in the UK, Europe, Australia, and Latin America. It's the version you'll find in most British bingo halls.
- Board: Numbers 1 to 90 on a 9×10 grid
- Card: 3 rows × 9 columns, with 15 numbers and blank spaces
- How to win: Complete one line, two lines, or a full house (all 15 numbers)
- Prizes: Typically awarded for each stage — line, two lines, and full house
75-ball bingo (American)
The go-to version in the United States and Canada. It plays a bit differently:
- Board: Columns labelled B-I-N-G-O
- Card: 5×5 grid with a free space in the centre
- How to win: Complete patterns — line, diagonal, X shape, frame, blackout, and more
- Prizes: Depends on the pattern being played
BINGU Online supports both 90-ball and 75-ball bingo. Try both modes in our free demo to see which one you prefer.
